PREPARATION

Start with a clean, weed-free seedbed by spraying or tilling existing vegetation. Create a firm, smooth seedbed with good
seed-to-soil contact. Because Wild Craze™ Mustards are small-seeded brassicas, avoid leaving the soil excessively loose before planting.

SOIL TEST & FERTILITY

Conduct a soil test whenever possible and adjust soil pH to approximately 6.0–7.0. Apply fertilizer according to soil test recommendations. For best results, use Backwoods Fuel™ Brassicas + Clover at planting to support rapid establishment, vigorous leafy growth, and maximum forage production.

PLANTING RATE

Broadcast (Prepared Seedbed): 10 lbs/acre
Broadcast (No-Till): 12-13 lbs/acre
Drill:
5 lbs/acre

When Used In Blends or Overseeding:
Reduce the rate based on the other species already present and the amount of mustard desired in the stand.

PLANTING DEPTH

Plant approximately ¼–½ inch deep. When broadcasting, spread seed evenly over a firm seedbed and lightly cultipack or roll afterward. Avoid disking or covering the seed too deeply, as excessive planting depth can
significantly reduce emergence.

TIMING

Plant approximately 60–90 days before your area's average first frost. This provides enough growing time for Wild Craze™ to establish a strong root system and produce abundant leafy forage before colder temperatures arrive.

MOISTURE

Plant into adequate soil moisture or immediately ahead of dependable rainfall. Consistent moisture during germination and early establishment promotes rapid emergence and vigorous growth. Avoid planting into extremely hot, dry soils without meaningful rainfall in the forecast.

OVERSEEDING & BLENDING

Wild Craze™ can be overseeded into compatible existing food plots or incorporated into custom blends with cereal grains, clovers, turnips,
radishes, and other brassicas. When adding Wild Craze™ to another planting,
reduce the standalone seeding rate to prevent excessive competition and
overcrowding.

For overseeding, maximize seed-to-soil contact by broadcasting into a thin or open canopy, exposing soil where possible, and timing planting immediately before dependable rainfall.

MANAGEMENT

Monitor the plot for weed competition and browse pressure throughout establishment. Avoid allowing competing vegetation to shade young mustard plants. Proper fertility and adequate growing space will help Wild Craze™ continue producing fresh leafy forage as deer browse the stand.

ADJUSTING FOR PLS & GERMINATION

Recommended planting rates assume 100% Pure Live Seed (PLS) and 100% germination. Actual seed quality varies by lot. To determine an adjusted planting rate, divide the recommended seeding rate by the PLS percentage multiplied by the germination percentage, both expressed as decimals. Adjusting for PLS and germination ensures proper stand density and maximum forage production.

Know Before You Grow

What is Straight Shot™ Wild Craze™ Mustards?

Straight Shot™ Wild Craze™ Mustards is a single-species mustard seed designed for hunters who want to plant mustard by itself, overseed an existing food plot, or add another fast-growing brassica to a custom fall blend.

Why should I plant mustard for deer?

Wild Craze™ Mustards produces fast-growing, tender leafy forage that adds attraction and diversity to cool-season food plots. It's especially useful when you want to increase the leafy brassica component of a fall planting.

Is Wild Craze™ Mustards an annual or perennial?

Wild Craze™ is a cool-season annual brassica. It establishes rapidly, produces forage through the fall and cool season, and
completes its life cycle within one growing season.

When should I plant Wild Craze™ Mustards?

For maximum forage production, plant approximately 60–90 days before your area's average first frost. Use your Backwoods planting zone as a starting point and adjust for local frost dates, soil moisture, and current weather conditions.

How deep should I plant Wild Craze™ Mustards?

Plant approximately ¼–½ inch deep. Mustard seed is small, so avoid burying it too deeply. When broadcasting, spread evenly over a firm seedbed and lightly cultipack or roll for good seed-to-soil contact.

Can I plant Wild Craze™ Mustards by itself?

Yes. Wild Craze™ can be planted as a standalone mustard plot when you want fast-growing leafy brassica forage.

Can I overseed Wild Craze™ Mustards into an existing food plot?

Absolutely. This is one of the best uses for Straight Shot™ Wild Craze™. Broadcast it into an existing fall plot to add another layer of
fast-growing leafy forage without completely replanting the area. Good
seed-to-soil contact and timely rainfall will improve establishment.

What should I mix with Wild Craze™ Mustards?

Wild Craze™ pairs well with turnips, radishes, rape, cereal grains, and clovers. When creating a blend, reduce individual species rates so the plot doesn't become overcrowded.

Can I add Wild Craze™ Mustards to a cereal grain plot?

Yes. Adding Wild Craze™ to oats, wheat, or cereal rye is an easy way to introduce a leafy brassica component and increase forage diversity in a traditional cereal-grain plot.

Can I mix Wild Craze™ Mustards with other brassicas?

Yes. Wild Craze™ works well alongside Bucknip™ Forage Turnips, Trophy Rape, and Buck™ Radish when building a custom brassica plot. The key is reducing each species' standalone rate so the combined planting isn't too dense.

Does Wild Craze™ Mustards produce a bulb?

No. Wild Craze™ should primarily be planted for its above-ground leafy forage. If you want significant bulb production as part of
the plot, add a forage turnip such as Bucknip™ or choose a complete blend like
Brassicas + Bulbs™.

Do deer need a frost before they'll eat Wild Craze™ Mustards?

No. Deer can browse mustard forage before frost. Cold weather may influence plant chemistry and palatability, but Wild Craze™ is not a forage deer only utilize after freezing temperatures.

How quickly does Wild Craze™ Mustards grow?

Under favorable moisture, temperatures, fertility, and seed-to-soil contact, mustard can establish rapidly. Meaningful leafy forage can develop within the first several weeks, which makes Wild Craze™ useful for
fast-building fall plots.

Do Wild Craze™ Mustards need fertilizer?

Yes. Brassicas respond strongly to proper fertility. Use a soil test whenever possible to determine nutrient requirements. Backwoods Fuel™ Brassicas + Clover is the recommended Backwoods fertilizer option for Wild Craze™.

What soil pH do Wild Craze™ Mustards prefer?

Target approximately 6.0–7.0 pH for best performance. Maintaining proper soil pH helps improve nutrient availability, establishment, and overall forage production.

Can I plant Wild Craze™ Mustards too thick?

Yes. Over-seeding creates unnecessary competition for sunlight, moisture, nutrients, and growing space. Follow the recommended standalone rate and reduce the rate when Wild Craze™ is being added to another blend or existing plot.

Will Wild Craze™ Mustards handle heavy browsing?

Wild Craze™ can continue producing leafy growth under normal browsing, but extremely heavy deer pressure can keep plants short or reduce overall production. On high-density properties, increasing planted acreage or combining it with other forage species can help distribute browsing
pressure.

Can I plant Wild Craze™ Mustards in the same plot every year?

You can, but repeatedly planting brassicas in the same ground isn't ideal as a long-term strategy. Rotating with cereal grains,
legumes, or other forage families helps diversify the plot and can reduce
potential disease and pest pressure.

What's the difference between Wild Craze™ Mustards and Trophy Rape?

Both are leafy brassicas, but Straight Shot™ allows hunters to select the exact species they want for a particular plot or custom blend. Wild Craze™ Mustards are an excellent option for fast-growing mustard forage, while Trophy Rape provides another leafy brassica option with its own growth
characteristics. They can also be planted together as part of a diverse brassica blend.

What's the difference between Wild Craze™ Mustards and Brassicas + Bulbs™?

Wild Craze™ Mustards gives you straight mustard seed and complete control over how much goes into your plot. Brassicas + Bulbs™ is a complete, pre-designed blend that combines multiple brassica forage types for hunters who don't want to formulate their own mixture.

Why buy Straight Shot™ Wild Craze™ Mustards instead of bulk mustard seed?

Straight Shot™ gives hunters individual food plot species in practical food-plot quantities. Buy what you need to build your own blend,
spice up an existing plot, overseed a thin stand, or experiment with a targeted
planting—without purchasing and storing a large agricultural bag.
