PREPARATION

Start with a clean, weed-free seedbed by spraying or tilling existing vegetation. Create a smooth, firm seedbed with excellent seed-to-soil contact. Small clover seed performs best when placed at or immediately below the soil surface.

SOIL TEST & FERTILITY

Conduct a soil test whenever possible and adjust soil pH to approximately 6.0–7.0. Apply phosphorus, potassium, lime, and other nutrients according to soil-test recommendations.

Because Everlast™ is a legume, properly nodulated plants can fix atmospheric nitrogen. Avoid unnecessary heavy nitrogen applications that can encourage competing grasses and weeds.

PLANTING DEPTH

Plant ¼ inch deep or less. When broadcasting, spread evenly over a firm seedbed and cultipack or roll afterward. Do not disk the seed into the soil after broadcasting.

TIMING

Plant during the appropriate fall or spring window for your region. For fall establishment, target approximately 6–8 weeks before the average first hard freeze. For spring establishment, plant early enough for seedlings to develop before periods of severe heat or drought.

MOISTURE

Plant into adequate soil moisture or immediately before dependable rainfall. Consistent moisture during germination and early establishment is important for developing a vigorous perennial stand.

MANAGEMENT

Control competing weeds and grasses during establishment. Once established, avoid repeatedly mowing the stand excessively short. Maintain proper fertility and periodically monitor soil pH to support long-term production.

Everlast™ can also be frost-seeded into suitable plots where freeze-thaw cycles provide good seed-to-soil contact.

ADJUSTING FOR PLS & GERMINATION

Recommended planting rates assume 100% Pure Live Seed (PLS) and 100% germination. Actual seed quality varies by lot. To determine an adjusted planting rate, divide the recommended seeding rate by the PLS percentage multiplied by the germination percentage, both expressed as decimals. Adjusting for PLS and germination ensures proper stand density and maximum forage production.

Yes. Ladino clover is a legume and can fix atmospheric nitrogen when its roots are properly nodulated by compatible Rhizobium bacteria. This reduces its need for supplemental nitrogen and can benefit the overall fertility cycle of the plot.

Yes, but don't treat it like a cereal-grain plot. Properly nodulated clover can provide much of its own nitrogen. Base phosphorus,
potassium, lime, and other fertility applications on a soil test whenever
possible.

For best performance, target approximately 6.0–7.0 pH. Maintaining proper pH improves nutrient availability, establishment, forage
production, and long-term stand persistence.

Ladino clover is recognized as a high-quality, protein-rich forage, but crude protein varies with plant maturity, fertility, environmental conditions, and sampling method. Unless Backwoods has forage-test data supporting a specific percentage, it's better to market Everlast™ as high-protein perennial forage rather than guarantee one number.

Very well once established. Ladino clover has a low, spreading growth habit and can continually produce fresh leaves following
normal deer browsing. Extremely heavy pressure can still overwhelm small plots,
particularly during periods of slow growth.

There isn't a guaranteed number of years. Stand longevity depends on soil fertility, pH, moisture, weed competition, disease pressure, browsing intensity, and management. Under favorable conditions and proper management, Ladino clover can provide productive forage for multiple years.

Mowing can help control certain weeds and manage overly mature vegetation, but don't mow simply because the plot looks tall. If mowing is needed, avoid cutting excessively short or during periods of heat and
drought when the clover is already stressed.

Established Ladino clover has some ability to withstand short periods of moisture stress, but it is not as drought tolerant as
deep-rooted species like Antler Chicory or Buckshot™ Alfalfa. Adding chicory can be a good strategy where summer drought is a recurring concern.

Ladino white clover generally handles moist soils better than alfalfa, making it useful on sites where moisture is adequate and drainage isn't ideal for alfalfa. However, prolonged standing water or severely
waterlogged conditions can still damage the stand.

Yes. Overseeding or frost-seeding Everlast™ can help introduce additional clover into compatible thinning plots, provided adequate soil is exposed and existing vegetation isn't so dense that new seedlings are immediately shaded out.
