SIX REASONS HUNTERS PLANT IGNITE™

More than a fall food plot. A perennial nutrition program.

Quick Fall Attraction

Annual cereal grains germinate rapidly to attract deer within days while perennial species establish underneath.

Built To Last

Premium clovers and chicory continue producing long after the annual grains have completed their job.

High Protein For Years

Provides dependable nutrition through fall, winter, spring, and into future growing seasons.

Improves Your Soil

Nitrogen-fixing legumes help improve soil health while reducing future fertilizer requirements.

Better Browse Recovery

Multiple perennial species recover better from repeated browsing than single-species plantings.

Feeds More Deer

Supports deer while providing valuable forage and habitat for turkeys and other wildlife.

PREPARATION
Begin with a clean, firm seedbed to promote even seed distribution and strong seed-to-soil contact. Remove existing weeds and vegetation before planting. When drilling, terminate existing vegetation to ensure proper seed placement.

SOIL TEST & FERTILITY
For best results, conduct a soil test and adjust soil pH to 6.0–7.0 as needed. Apply fertilizer according to soil test recommendations. For maximum establishment and long-term productivity, pair Ignite™ with Fuel™ Cereal Grains, a fertilizer specifically formulated to support cool-season food plots.

PLANTING RATE
Broadcast (Prepared Seedbed):
 100 lbs/acre
Broadcast (No-Till): 120-125 lbs/acre
Drill: 75 lbs/acre

PLANTING DEPTH
Plant seed ¼"–½" deep. When broadcasting, lightly drag, crimp, or cultipack after planting to improve seed-to-soil contact. Avoid planting deeper than ½", as excessive depth can reduce germination of the clover and chicory components.

TIMING
Plant Ignite™ 60–75 days before your area's average first frost when cooler temperatures and adequate soil moisture favor rapid establishment. This allows the annual cereal grains to provide immediate attraction while the perennial clovers and chicory develop a strong root system
before winter.

MOISTURE
Adequate soil moisture is critical for successful establishment. Plant just ahead of expected rainfall whenever possible and avoid planting into excessively dry soil. Consistent moisture during germination promotes faster emergence and stronger perennial establishment.

ADJUSTING FOR PLS & GERMINATION
Recommended planting rates assume 100% Pure Live Seed (PLS) and 100% germination. Actual seed quality varies by lot. To determine an adjusted planting rate, divide the recommended seeding rate by the PLS percentage multiplied by the germination percentage (both expressed as decimals). Adjusting for PLS and germination helps ensure proper stand density, consistent establishment, and long-term plot performance.

Know Before You Grow

Common Questions From Hunters

HOW LONG WILL IGNITE™ LAST?

With proper fertility and maintenance, Ignite™ establishes into a productive perennial clover and chicory plot that can provide high-quality forage for multiple growing seasons. The annual cereal grains provide first-year attraction while the perennial species continue producing year after year.

WHY DOES IGNITE™ CONTAIN WHEAT, OATS, AND RYE?

The cereal grains provide immediate attraction, protect young clover seedlings during establishment, help suppress weed competition, and create ideal growing conditions while the perennial clovers and chicory become established.

WHEN SHOULD I PLANT IGNITE™?

Plant Ignite™ in late summer to early fall,
approximately 60–75 days before your area's average first frost, when cooler temperatures and adequate soil moisture promote rapid establishment.

HOW DO I MAINTAIN MY IGNITE™ PLOT?

Maintain proper soil fertility, mow periodically to control weeds, and monitor grass competition. With routine maintenance, Ignite™ can continue producing quality forage for years.

WILL DEER OVERBROWSE IGNITE™?

Heavy browsing can slow establishment, especially on small properties or where deer densities are high. The companion cereal grains help absorb browsing pressure while the perennial clovers and chicory become
established.

CAN I OVERSEED OR THICKEN AN EXISTING IGNITE™ PLOT?

Yes. Thin stands can often be improved by lightly overseeding additional clover during the fall or by frost seeding where appropriate, along with maintaining proper fertility.

WHAT FERTILIZER SHOULD I USE?

For maximum establishment and long-term performance, pair Ignite™ with Backwoods Fuel™ Cereal Grains and follow soil test recommendations for future fertilizer applications.

WHAT IF WEEDS START TAKING OVER?

Healthy, well-managed clover stands naturally compete with many weeds over time. Maintaining proper fertility, herbicide application, mowing when needed, and controlling weeds early will help keep your plot productive for years.
