What To Expect

See how GENESIS™ develops throughout the growing season.

7-14 Days

Rapid Establishment

Fast-germinating wheat and rye quickly cover the soil, providing early attraction while protecting against erosion and suppressing weeds.

30 Days

Forage Explosion

Lush cereal grains dominate the plot as brassicas and balansa clover become well established, creating abundant early-season nutrition.

After First Frost

Peak Attraction

Cooler temperatures increase the palatability of the brassicas while the cereal grains continue producing highly preferred forage throughout hunting season.

Late Winter

Soil Benefits Continue

As the annual forage matures, brassicas help improve soil structure while balansa clover contributes nitrogen for healthier future food plots.

PREPARATION
Begin with a clean, firm seedbed to promote even seed
distribution and excellent seed-to-soil contact. Remove existing weeds and
vegetation before planting. For no-till applications, terminate existing
vegetation prior to planting.

SOIL TEST & FERTILITY
For best results, conduct a soil test and adjust soil pH to 6.0–7.0 as needed. Apply fertilizer according to soil test recommendations. For maximum establishment, forage production, and soil-building performance, pair
Genesis™ with Fuel™ Cereal Grains, specifically formulated for cool-season food plots.

PLANTING RATE
Broadcast (Prepared Seedbed):
90 lbs/acre
Broadcast (No-Till): 108–113 lbs/acre
Drill: 68 lbs/acre

PLANTING DEPTH
Broadcast:
Lightly incorporate seed ¼–½ inch deep using a drag, cultipacker, or roller.
Drill: Plant ½–¾ inch deep for optimal establishment across all species in the blend.

TIMING
Plant Genesis™ when soil temperatures decline to approximately 55–65°F, typically 45–60 days before your area's average first frost. This timing allows the cereal grains, brassicas, and clover to establish rapidly and maximize hunting-season performance.

MOISTURE
Adequate soil moisture is essential for rapid germination and vigorous establishment. Plant just ahead of expected rainfall whenever
possible and avoid planting into excessively dry soil. Uniform moisture
promotes a thicker, more productive stand.

ADJUSTING FOR PLS & GERMINATION
Recommended planting rates assume 100% Pure Live Seed (PLS)
and 100% germination. Actual seed quality varies by lot. To determine an
adjusted planting rate, divide the recommended seeding rate by the PLS
percentage multiplied by the germination percentage (both expressed as
decimals). Adjusting for PLS and germination helps ensure proper stand density
and maximize forage production and long-term plot performance.

Know Before You Grow

WHY SHOULD I PLANT GENESIS™ INSTEAD OF A SIMPLE CEREAL GRAIN BLEND?

Genesis™ combines premium cereal grains, brassicas, and Balansa clover to deliver more than just forage. The result is season-long attraction, improved soil health, and a more complete food plot that continues
benefiting your property long after planting.

WHY DOES GENESIS™ CONTAIN SO MANY CEREAL GRAINS?

Cereal grains establish quickly, produce abundant forage, tolerate heavy browsing, protect the soil, and provide the foundation that allows the brassicas and clover to thrive.

WHEN SHOULD I PLANT GENESIS™?

Plant when soil temperatures decline to approximately 55–65°F, typically 45–60 days before your area's average first frost, and when adequate soil moisture is available.

WILL GENESIS™ HANDLE HEAVY BROWSE PRESSURE?

Yes. The high percentage of cereal grains provides exceptional forage production and grazing tolerance, making Genesis™ an
excellent choice for properties with moderate to heavy deer populations.

WHY IS BALANSA CLOVER INCLUDED?

Balansa clover naturally fixes nitrogen, produces high-protein forage, and helps improve soil fertility while contributing to
spring forage production.

WHAT FERTILIZER SHOULD I USE?

For maximum establishment and forage production, pair Genesis™ with Backwoods Fuel™ Cereal Grains and follow soil test
recommendations for future fertilizer applications.

WHAT IF WEEDS START TAKING OVER?

Begin with a clean seedbed and maintain proper fertility to give Genesis™ the best chance to outcompete weeds. While a healthy stand suppresses many weeds naturally, timely weed control before planting is critical because post-emergence herbicide options are limited in diverse food
plot blends.

CAN I PLANT GENESIS™ IN THE SAME FIELD EVERY YEAR?

Yes. Genesis™ is designed as an annual cool-season blend and can be replanted each fall. Its diverse species help improve soil structure and contribute organic matter over time, making it an excellent choice for
long-term food plot programs.
