Soil Testing: Conduct a soil test to determine pH and nutrient levels. Adjust the soil pH to 6.5-7.5 using lime if necessary. Apply appropriate fertilizers based on the soil test results to ensure optimal growth conditions.
Seed Rate:
Broadcasting: Spread AlfaBuck™ seed at a rate of 15 lbs per acre.
Drilling: Use a seed drill to plant at a rate of 12 lbs per acre for more precise placement and better seed-to-soil contact.
Planting Depth: Ensure seeds are planted at a depth of 1/4 to 1/2 inch. If broadcasting, lightly rake or drag the area to cover the seeds with soil and ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Timing: Plant AlfaBuck™ in the Fall. Avoid planting during extreme heat or drought conditions. Fall planting helps ensure that the seeds establish a strong root system before the onset of winter, promoting robust growth in the Spring.
Moisture: Ensure the soil is adequately moist during the planting process. Irrigate the area, if possible, if there has been insufficient rainfall to help seeds establish. Consistent moisture is crucial for the rapid growth of the blend.
Maintenance: Monitor the plot regularly for weed competition and manage as necessary. Mowing the plot to a height of 6-8 inches can help control weeds and encourage clover and alfalfa growth. Ensure consistent moisture through rainfall or irrigation to support growth.
